Surviving the First Trimester

Before I even go into the details of the First Trimester & before you even start reading this post, go out & buy yourself a moisturising cream(heavy-duty like cocoa butter) or an anti-stretch mark cream(sorry to burst your bubble but the latter hardly makes a difference). Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!! I never did this & Im now left with a lovely pattern of stretch marks on my tummy. Keep your skin supple from day 1 & your stretch marks will probably be lesser (note: this won't work for women with hereditary stretch marks. Yes. If your mom had them, theres a bloody high chance you're gonna get them too).

Okay. Now back to what the post is all about.

Once we did the Home Pregnancy test, we then went to my Ob/Gyn to confirm the test.
YES. I WAS PREGGERS !!!

So the first thing you're "supposed" to do is NOT TELL ANYONE YOU'RE PREGNANT till the 3rd month. Its just till everything goes well they said. Well, I couldn't care less. I was pregnant. Of course I'm gonna tell everyone who is close to me. And tell I did. Everyone was so happy. That made me happy too !!

What I hadn't thought of were the repercussions involved in telling everyone about the pregnancy. BOOM... The pregnancy advice game like a tornado. Don't do this. Don't do that. Don't eat this. Don't eat that.. Phew! No one prepared me for this. To all new mommies, listen to the advise that your elders & well-wishers give you but at the end you do whats best for you. No one knows your body better than you.

When my 1st trimester started, I prepared myself for the morning sickness bouts, the constant peeing and anxiety.. Well whadya know.. I didn't have any :-) Sure there were days I would feel queasy but never something that would send me rushing to puke over the toilet bowl thankfully. But there were a whole lot of changes my body went through. I would always have warm water on waking up but after my pregnancy, I just couldn't gulp it down. It made me sick. I needed cold water. ICE COLD WATER!! No I didn't catch a cold, if that's what you're thinking. I've heard of other women having a terrible First Trimester & I also know of some for whom it was a breeze. But below are a few thing I followed during my First Trimester.

1) Narrow down on a good Ob/Gyn. Never go for someone who doesn't come with a recommendation. Its always better(and safer) when you go with someone who comes highly recommended.
2) Have your Folic Acid, Iron & Calcium supplements without fail. I used to hate taking tablets but after getting to know the benefits of these supplements, I took them religiously. Even if you don't like medications, take them. Take them for the little one growing inside you.
3) REST. REST. REST. Catch up on all the zzzzzz's. During my time, i slept like a log. I was hardly awake. Trust me, you're gonna miss all the sleep once your baby arrives. In this case, too much of a good thing is GOOD.
4) Skip the Chinese. My favouritest cuisine and I couldn't eat it. The doctor advises against eating it because the restaurants add MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) which is apparently not good for a foetus' growth. While some studies say that it is safe to consume Chinese cuisine, I would advise you to do what I did. If you can, go to GOOD restaurants and request for your food to be cooked without MSG or ajinomoto(it doesn't taste the same but what the hell. Somethings better than nothing). If you're not sure about that, try making some at home. Get the hubby to help you out. That way you don't tire yourself out too much and on the plus side, you and hubby dearest can spend quality time together.
5) Keep a diary. This is optional. I kept one just so that I could track how I did daily. What my mood swings were, what my food cravings were etc.

The best part is, at the end of the First Trimester, you get to have your 1st ultrasound. You will see that little miracle. Hear the heartbeat. There's no better feeling in the world. I cried like a baby when they showed me my miracle for the first time. I knew my life was about to change. It will change for the better!!

The Pregnancy News !!!

My son is 2 and a half months old but I can still clearly remember the day my husband & I found out I was pregnant..
We had been trying for a month & I just had a gut feeling that I would get pregnant the next month. Rightfully when I took a home pregnancy test, I saw those 2 beautiful lines. I called out to my husband & showed him the stick. The poor guy was in so much shock he just stood there holding it in his hand.. Not the reaction I expected but who can blame the poor guy..
He placed the stick down n hugged me so tight. We both started crying..
Crying because we knew that our lives would change forever. Crying because we knew things would never be the same again!! This was HUGE.. And we couldn't ask for anything more.

When we broke the news to our families (separately), my mom cried louder than me.. I guess it was a new chapter in their lives too. Being grandparents is the second best thing after being parents. There's no bigger joy than when a grandparent holds their grandchild in their arms.
I'm happy my son has his grandparents. Its important because they will teach him things we might not know & he will always remember his grampy & grammy..

Its a new journey & we all are loving the road so far !!!!
